I didn’t get into Cat Power until recently; I was kind of blown away by the new album. I think it’s ridiculously good. Why it’s on here: I think Chan Marshall is brilliant, crazy, amazing and she reminds me of all of my girlfriends and the shit we’ve gone through and our ability to say fuck it, this is who I am. My parents didn’t listen to David Bowie; we were much more a Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young/Simon & Garfunkel type of household. But we did watch Saturday Night Live nearly every week. David Bowie played SNL in 1979. And I heard Bowie and Queen and Blondie on the radio - they were the atmosphere of my childhood.
